Janet Dauphin_Khuyay-Farm-Fire Fund

On the night of February 16, 2018, the historic barn at Khuyay Farm caught fire with all eight alpacas inside!

“Janet was awakened by neighbors pounding on her door. Her barn was on fire! The fire department arrived to find the barn completely engulfed in flames. Seven of her eight alpacas were able to make their way to safety, but she knew that Quicksilver ("Q"), her prized Rose Gray, was trapped in his stall. The conditions were too dangerous to enter the building, and tragically, Q perished in the fire.“

Losing Quicksilver has been an emotional blow to Janet. To add to the loss, the barn/garage and all its contents went up in the flames that night. Originally the insurance company committed to a payout, which would have allowed a scaled down version of the barn/garage to be reconstructed, but they have just broken their word on that amount, citing a loophole in the policy. Construction is already underway, and the project is now seriously underfunded. The alpaca’s home is in jeopardy of not being finished.

I am hoping to assist my friend Janet in raising $15,000 to help with the building costs so that the alpacas will be in a safe and secure new home before next winter.

Can you help us by making a donation and by helping to spread the word? No donation is too small!

Your contributions are vital to finishing this project and will be enormously appreciated by Janet…and by Diva, Mia, Christina, Sammy, Desdemona, Chickpea, and Taylor, who are now residing in temporary shelters with inadequate fencing. They are counting on you to help them move into their new, permanent home! Thanks for hearing our story and for considering a donation.

In peace, Tina

Khuyay Farm was started in 2012 by Janet, who decided to make her ‘someday’ dream into a ‘carpe diem’ reality. Her funding was secured by Safe Haven Farm in Hampton CT and before long, Diva and Mariachi moved into the historic dairy barn on the property. The herd soon grew to eight and Janet was enjoying the therapeutic connections with the animals themselves and loved to see the delight of the people who came to visit and meet them.

KHUYAY  /KOO-yay/ - means "love" in an ancient Peruvian dialect. It is the mission of Khuyay Farm to spread love for all living creatures and the earth. Visitors are welcome!

Please consider making a donation to assist in making a safe home for this herd! They thank you!!
