You Can Count On Jan
If there is a pet in need of rescue, you can count on Jan. If an elderly friend needs a visit and a pick-me-up, you can count on Jan. Any time you need a listening ear or shoulder to cry on, you can count on Jan. Today, Jan Marie Goode, is in need of rescue, a pick me up, a listening ear, and help with medical expenses.
Can Jan Count on Us During Her Time of Need?
In December, a biopsy revealed pre-cancerous growths in the lining of Jan's uterus. The outpatient procedure to diagnose her medical issues cost in excess of $25,000. Even with insurance, her share of this procedure was in excess of $10,000.
She is scheduled for more extensive surgery with Texas Oncology. Unfortunately, because of anemia and other underlying health issues, that procedure is being postponed until later this Spring. She will be undergoing hormone therapy until then to stave off a malignancy and more complications.
With at least one night in the hospital (barring complications), additional pathology reports to rule out cancer, and an ongoing battle for coverage with her insurer, it is expected that her out of pocket will be, at least, an additional $40,000.
That's a total of $50,000 out of pocket! That's a lot of money for a teacher and single "dog mom."
Goal
I started this GoFundMe page because, like many of you, I know and love Jan Marie. I also know that she would hesitate to ask for monetary help during her time of need. I set a goal of $20,000 in the hopes that much more would be raised to help her with her medical bills and living expenses during this difficult time.
She is the sole earner in her household and as a teacher in a private school, her paid medical leave is limited.
About Jan
Jan Goode has been an advocate for children & animals her entire life. She has spent the past 30 years in the educational/childcare field as a nanny, pre kindergarten teacher, special education teacher, & director of early childhood centers.
Her love for family, friends, children, and animals has been at the core of her career and volunteer activities. Always focusing on the less fortunate with her time, talent, and treasure, she has spent many volunteer hours with animal rescue organizations, children's charities, and comforting the elderly in rehabilitation and long term care settings.
Jan is also a devoted daughter and sister. Her mother was recently diagnosed with cancer and underwent surgery on 25th. Jan's biggest concern during her own health crisis has been figuring out how she is going to help her mother through the post-operative and treatment process.
