Jamie's "Love Away the Cancer" Fund

Aloha from our favorite place on earth and our home...Maui. We are the Thompson family: Jamie, Jessica and Bodhi. Two weeks ago, our world changed forever and was touched by something many of you know well - Cancer.
Jamie (age 47) went to the doctor for a routine visit and to get some answers about why his right lymph node was swollen. That visit led to the discovery of a large cancerous mass located at the base of his tongue and one that has invaded his lymph node on the right side - he was diagnosed with advanced squamous cell carcinoma. This diagnosis was devastating news and is complicated by Jamie's existing Type 1 diabetes.
Our story is also complicated by where we live. We "love living Hawaii" as we say here and we've received excellent Medical care up to the diagnosis. However...treatment options are limited on our small island and specialists are located thousands of miles away. We are faced with the difficult decision to leave our home temporarily and seek treatment on the mainland as soon as possible.
Our intention is to "Love Away the Cancer"
with our hearts, minds, and of course, treatment. We are determined to heal Jamie from this disease and share our journey with the world as an inspiration.
We need your help. Although we have health insurance, it doesn't cover most out-of-state treatment and when it does, only 50% some of the time. It doesn't cover travel or lodging at all. If we stay here for treatment, Jamie will not receive the expertise he needs. We are facing extreme costs for travel and treatment. We also must still keep our home and responsibilities going in Maui while we are away. We would appreciate any and all donations to help give us grace through this journey.
