Debate at Stanford Law!

James is a student at Desert Pines High School, a title I tier I school. Over the past two years he has been competing with our debate club and was recently selected into Stanford Law School's summer program titled "Intensive Law and Trial." Stanford also chose him to receive a 500 dollar scholarship to be a member of their "20 below 20 Impact Scholar" program, which is only awarded to 20 applicants a year and is based off of their display of leadership and academic skills. 
However, even with this selected scholarship offer from Stanford, the cost is still above what we can currently afford.
James is an outstanding student, he is ranked in the top 1% of his class academically and holds an "Excellence" standing with the National Speech and Debate Association due to his dedication to competing and winning county tournaments. Access into the law program will give him the connections and training he needs to continue his success out of high school, and into the competitive world of college law. As his teacher, I have seen the dedication he has to every assignment, every class, and every grade. He leads his team as the captain of Lincoln-Douglas style debate, assists in the classroom to help lift up the understanding of everyone, and takes feedback seriously for his own improvement. In a school like Desert Pines, our students don't often get this level of attention and recognition. With the completion of this summer program, James will be recognized as a student capable of completing challenges that will rank him above other college applicants. This is the kind of opportunity that I wish money wasn't needed to buy, but it is. Your donations will ensure that a student has the opportunity to explore the realities of life beyond high school, and set him up with the knowledge to continue being successful even after his high school graduation date.
