First Medical Mission Trip to Myanmar!

My name is Jaeka, and I just want to say thank you so much for taking the time to read about my future journey! I am so overwhelmed with excitement and joy that I have been blessed with the opportunity to partake in a Christian, medical mission trip! It has always been in my heart to help those less fortunate, and win over souls. It makes my heart glow knowing that God has answered my prayers.
I will be traveling with Hand of Hope Ministries to Yangon, Myanmar for 10 days in December. Myanmar is located in Southeast Asia, and borders Thailand and Laos.
This will be the organizations FIRST ever medical/dental outreach in Myanmar.
Medical care in Myanmar is very poor. The government only spends 2% of its designated funds on health care, which is among the lowest in the world. While health care may be 'free', patients still must pay for any medicine and treatment, even in public clinics and hospitals. HIV is a major concern in Myanmar, as Myanmar has a high number of sex traffickers and drug users. Malaria and tuberculosis are also major health issues.
A medical/dental clinic in this area is rare and the needs are tremendous. On this outreach, we will help many of the sick and hurting who would otherwise go without much needed treatment. Hand of Hope will set up a general medical/dental clinic and treat patients' needs as they present. We will also pray with every patient and give them an opportunity to accept Christ.
Please pray for the survivors of the deadly cyclone in Myanmar that occurred in May 2013. Pray for the Christian church as it faces many challenges, including limitations on the freedom to function.
I hope you can read this and in your heart you know I am so passionate about helping the people of Myanmar. This experience will completely change my life forever, and will bring me closer to Christ than ever before.
