John "Jack" Egan's Recovery Fund

Thank you for visiting Jack's page.
John Egan, known as Jack to his close friends, is a Daytona Beach native. Before his accident, he was extremely active; both as a professional painter and a guy who loved to play sports, surf, and exercise. Jack is the kind of guy who never lets an adventure pass him by, and this spirited approach to life has garnered him many friends and admirers along his journey.

On August 4th, 2012, Jack's life was forever altered when he was involved in a very serious automobile accident. During the accident, he was ejected from the vehicle, resulting in a broken neck and C5-C6 spinal cord injury that left him paralyzed from the chest down and unable to use his hands or legs. After spending 3 months in the critical care unit at Halifax Hospital, Jack began to show signs of progress and has made great strides toward recovery. He has since been transferred from Halifax Hospital to a nursing/rehabilitation facility, where he has regained a lot of strength, learned to feed himself, and has even regained some sensations throughout parts of his body. He must remain in this facility until he no longer requires constant nursing care and he can withstand 3 hours of workouts per day. We are hoping that he will be able to make this transition before the end of the year. Once he meets the criteria, he can begin acute spinal cord injury rehabilitation at a facility in Jacksonville Florida, where he will re-learn how to take care of himself and adapt back into society.

Doctors have given Jack hope that he may regain the use of his hands again, but will most likely remain partially paralyzed and will necessitate the use of a wheelchair. It is our hope that, with rehabilitation and patience, Jack will be able to live autonomously and not require permanent in-home care.

100% of donations made through this site will go toward funding rehabilitation services and medical necessities for Jack.
We truly appreciate your support and are so grateful to each and every friend we've made along this journey. Without your support, Jack could not have made the great strides that he has made toward his recovery.
