Jack's 32 Day Immersion Trip-January '13

Jack's 32  Day Immersion Trip

Jack's Journey to Haiti

At the moment I heard about the earthquake in Haiti, I was on an airplane on my way to Guatemala. I knew at that very moment I had to go to Haiti, actually I wanted that airplane to be going to Haiti. I felt devastated, I wept, and I couldn't understand how this could've happened to this already poor country. All these feelings for a country I had barely started to get to know a few months earlier, I knew this could only be God and I also knew this was the catalyst of many changes in MY life as well and not only for the lives of the people of Haiti.

My First Impression of Haiti

In April 2011, when I had the privilege of setting foot on Haitian ground, I was nervous, even a little insecure of why was God calling me to this land. What was my purpose? For what?  Why did I feel love for a country in destruction of which I knew nothing of, nor understood a word they said. Maybe because In Haiti the people give thanks to God in the middle of rubble, unsanitary conditions, unsafe living conditions, they give thanks! Thanks for sparing them from death, thanks for food and shelter, thanks for the privilege of worshipping the Living God! I heard joyful praise in the midst of loss. Words cannot explain the joy, the thanksgiving, the resilience of the people of Haiti. Maybe something I needed to learn. I learned my purpose was about BEING with the Haitian people and not FOR the Haitian people.

Almost three years after the devastating earthquake there is still lots of work to be done. Through the partnership my church, Community Christian Church, has  had with World Relief and through the friendship with founders of 1013 Missions, Chris and Jen Savini, I look forward to learning and being part of a future of continued restoration in Haiti as we Help People Find Their Way Back To God. It's exciting times and WE get to be a part of it. I ask you join me with your continued support in prayer, encouragement and financial resources as I seek to continue serving and loving on Haiti!

Next Mission Trip is  January 27, 2013"”March 1, 2013 with  "1013 Missions"

Total Cost: $1900 by January 15, 2013

In January I will be going to live in Haiti for 32 days with One Family in Christ Jesus Ministries during a residency/immersion program through 1013 Missions, where I will be learning more about Haiti's everyday struggles and challenges along with their everyday joys and freedoms. I will be attending language school and helping in the daily operations of the orphanage and offering an art class to the 45 children that live in the Children's Home. I believe in our quest of helping restore Haiti, to the  Haiti God intended it to be, one of the most important areas we must better ourselves in, is learning Haiti. What is Haiti? Who is Haiti? And how can we come alongside Haiti? During these 32 days I hope to learn from Haiti as much as one can in this limited time to further strengthening my commitment to the restoration of Haiti. As challenging as these 32 days can become I am thankful for the great privilege of being called to love and serve the Haitian people and I am thankful your partnership in this journey to Restoring Haiti.
