Greetings Family, Friends, Colleagues, and Patients,
Next month, August, I will have the distinct honor of participating in a Physical Therapy Mission Trip to Haiti with eight Doctor of Physical Therapy students, as well as another Professor from Stony Brook University. For two weeks, we will offer our services to the people of Croix-Des-Bouquets, Haiti at the Clinique Saint E'sprit (Holy Spirit Clinic). This clinic provides primary and preventative health care, dental, vision, and outpatient surgery to approximately 200 patients per day. The attached Saint Charles Rehabilitation Center provides outpatient therapies to children and adults. This operation is funded and organized by the Haiti Medical Missions of Memphis.
During my mission trip to Haiti, I have decided to fundraise for Haitian American Caucus (HAC) - Haiti. I am the Health & Wellness Committee Co-Chair of HAC-US. Our organization runs a primary school in Croix-Des-Bouquets, Haiti called "Institute Mixte Shalom Des Freres. " Many of the children that attend this school, are sponsored by individuals living abroad.
This trip holds a sentimental place in my heart for a variety of reasons. Firstly, my parents are from Croix-Des-Bouquets, Haiti and I have witnessed first hand how philanthrophy can help shape the trajectory of a family. My parents received their primary, secondary, and technical education via sponsorships such as HAC-Haiti. Without such help, I am sure that my life, as well as theirs, would be completely different. Secondly, as an educator, I believe that education can be used as a survival tool no matter where you are in the world. It's the gift that keeps on giving.
Your donation would help sponsor a child at the Institute Mixte Shalom Des Freres in Croix-Des-Bouquets, Haiti. My goal is to fundraise enough to sponsor at least three children for the upcoming academic year ($450/school year). None of the donation monies will be used to fund my travel or expenses during my mission trip. If you would require verification of donation from HAC, I can provide that to you. HAC is a 501(c)(3) Nonprofit Organization. Thanks for your generosity!
