Justin M Krall's trip to Kung Fu Academy

Donation protected
When I graduated college, like many others I was struggling to a certain extent financially as well as in the pursuit of my desired field. However, within my first job post college I decided one thing, that my next major chapter of professional, personal, and artistic training needed to be at the Maling Kung Fu academy in China.

My goal was to experience a year of consistent training and living that lifestyle. I contacted previous students, compared it to other schools, and contacted the school itself. I also speculated financially what it would take, and a saved up constantly to be able to pay for flights/travel, living expenses and tuition. I am almost there, in fact I'm scheduled to leave late November.

Why I'm on this website, is that although I thought I had enough money, I'm short a little bit, I worked very hard this past year, but didn't make as much money as I wanted. At this rate I may not be able to stay as long as I originally planned. I'm estimating I need about $2,000 to $3,000 to reach my goal, with $2,000 being the minimum I need to make it a year and back to the states, and $3,000 simply being ideal to ensure such a thing and not be totally broke when I land home (why I capped the donation goal at $3,000).

I had never considered asking anyone for money, as I wanted it to be my personal investment, and I have saved since 2011. However, after talking about my goals at a recent martial arts retreat, the idea of fundraising was suggested by a fellow artist, and I discovered this site.

Why a Kung Fu Academy/about myself-

I attended Niagara University where I studied Theatre Performance, and focused heavily on stage combat... and all movement classes in general. My stage combat professor knew I had interest in fight choreography as a career, and told me to pick up an actual martial art- I chose Kung Fu, specifically studied Liu Seong Kuntao Silat, or Chinese Indonesian Kung Fu. Whatever you want to call it, I fell in love with it, it was some of the most interesting, and smart movement development I have ever experienced. What I didn't expect, is that it had an impact so great that it complimented everything else, even the way I danced. My dreams have since expanded from simply fight choreography to being involved in movement teaching and direction in general- Stage combat, actual self defense, conscious body being, dance, physical theatre... anything I can think of. So This academy, with it's variety of classes, will accelerate my education greatly, and allow me to come back and connect with a great deal of people with more knowledge of how the body works, and apply it to many fields... not only achieving my dreams, but with persistence, help others succeed and improve their physical skill and performance goals as well.

Who/what am I-
I consider myself a general movement artist, a dancer, martial artist, fight choreographer, movement coach, playwright, poet, and general director. Post college, I founded my personal business that independently offers services listed above- Justin Mitchell Krall Live Arts.

I have a lot of dreams and goals that this pursuit of knowledge applies to- so... What are my dreams and goals that I want you all to be a part of?
My earliest goal- establishing a solid professional career in Fight Direction and Performance- For as long as I can remember, I have daydreamed and imagined choreography and different action sequences, movies, and plays. I have had a specific interest in taking part in emotionally and philosophically engaging projects.
The more I studied movement... the more I dreamed...something for later in life-
A movement academy/company- I don't simply want to work on my own career, but someday run a company who's purpose is to train others, as well put on shows to inspire others for the better using the movement arts to produce dance, stunt, movement, and physical theatre shows that encourage principles such as health, imagination, physical well being, and quality of life. I enjoy daydreaming about this because I want to spread my passion and love for the arts at the same time as one day providing jobs for others.

The newest goal has a good start-
F.E.A.R. (Face Everything And Rise) is a thematic and narrative Movement show centered around facing fear, maintaining community, conflict and resolution, and letting go. It utilizes Improvised dance of various styles, including contact improv, as well as fight choreography, physical theatre, spoken word, and includes experimental pieces and audience interaction.
Summer 2013, it received a workshop performance at The Lost Colony where I worked. It was extremely warmly received, and is a project that i have used all my training in, especially my unique take on dance and movement. I hope that it will grow in the years upon my return from China and I can use it to help others.

If you've read this far... :-P

THANK YOU
, most likely you're a friend or family member, or follower and general supporter. I know the above seems like a lot, but what I'm getting at is although this would be personal training, I plan on giving back and spreading my love and knowledge for the rest of my life.

I am fortunate in that I have many people in my life I hold near and dear, many who I can thank for inspiration and love, and I will never forget that. If you've read this and wish to contribute, please do so. If you cannot afford it, I understand very well, and simply ask that you not hesitate to pass my story on and keep me in your thoughts. IF you do donate... I'd be glad to give you a lesson when I return :)

With love and respect,
