Jeremy's Recovery Fund

Anyone who knows my brother Jeremy, knows he’s not one to ask for help. In fact, when I considered setting up this project, part of me thought, “He’s gonna be so pissed!” But the reality is, he needs all of our support to overcome this latest diagnosis. A short time ago, my big brother, Jeremy Bruns, was diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndromes (MDs.) MDs is a form of cancer of the blood and bone marrow.

Jeremy’s MDs is believed to have been treatment-related and the result of residual cell damage from chemotherapy he underwent to win his battle with acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) in May 2012. As a cancer survivor, he remarried in August 2015, returned to work as a quality-control inspector at Boeing, and continued to raise his two kids along with welcoming two stepchildren into his home.

Right now, Jeremy is still working full-time to raise his family. That’s his character – he’s a fourth-generation Boeing employee dedicated to providing for his family. But very soon, he’ll begin an intense round of a different chemotherapy and radiation treatment at the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA) in preparation for a bone-marrow transplant. It’s all going to happen very quickly and aggressively to give Jeremy the best possible outcome as a second-time cancer survivor. We have faith he’s going to conquer this, but to do so, he must remain close to the SCCA and the UW Medical Center for treatment. That’s where you can help.

Your contribution will help provide for his family while he is recovering. Typical recovery from a bone-marrow transplant is up to a year, during which time he will be unable to work. If we can rally enough of our friends, family and community to help Jeremy, his wife Angela, and their four children with these expenses, it will take a huge burden of stress off their shoulders so they can focus on his recovery.

We know Jeremy can win this battle. With your help, he’ll make a full recovery and will be back to watching the Seahawks with Angela, hitting the pow with the Penguin Ski Club, building Lego fortresses with his kids, geeking out over Star Wars, and ensuring the airplane you take your family vacation on is safe. Your continued love, PRAYERS, encouragement, and ANY financial support that you may be able to contribute are greatly appreciated.

Please also consider visiting the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and registering to be a bone marrow donor.  You could save a life!
