Help Animal CO pay for hearing aids

Let me introduce you to an amazing young woman. Her name is JJ Wegner and she is brave and courageous as well as compassionate and a huge animal lover and advocate.
This young woman is a certified animal control officer and she loves her job. As her friend, I can tell you she has the biggest heart I have ever seen for animals. Sometimes she and I will be in conversation about unpleasant subjects and she will be disgusted or angry about the subject matter. If she sees an animal, even on a phone, while we are in the middle of this conversation, her entire physical appearance changes! It’s really a sight to behold. She goes from tense and tight faced to relaxed and happy faced. THEN……. the sweet talk emerges. Like I said before, she is amazing.
Want to know what makes her even MORE amazing? Her job is dangerous enough because she goes out into the streets of Nashville every day, after receiving calls from concerned citizens, to rescue abused or lost animals as well as rescue people from dangerous animals. But to make it even more dangerous for her is the very real fact that she is handicapped with serious hearing loss!
She received her first hearing aid when she was in third grade and the technology at that time was such that wearing this hearing aid had many obstacles and frustrations associated with it. So frustrating, she stated that she didn’t wear it much because it just made everything she could already hear, louder and annoying. It didn’t amplify any noise that she lacked the ability to hear. And every day after school, she had headaches and migraines. Can you imagine having migraines at the age of 9?
When I first met her about 2 years ago, she didn’t wear her hearing aid and because she has adapted to her situation so well, I had no clue she had any type of hearing loss until she told me. She is a master at reading lips and body language.
BUT, adapting to her situation has caused her body to react with some painful side effects. JJ has anxiety on a daily basis, probably from the stress of always being on guard and trying to compensate for her hearing loss with her other senses.
Remember, she is a licensed animal control officer that works with all types of animals including aggressive dogs, feral cats & rabid skunks. She seriously needs to HEAR what’s going on when she answers a call.
She has migraine headaches every week, sometimes 2 and 3 times a week, which can be caused by her stress and anxiety.
And on top of all the stress and anxiety, she has been having unusual and countless dental issues. So this fund raiser is to help her raise the money to pay for the hearing aids she needs as well as the expensive dental procedures she had to undergo.
After being encouraged by some of her friends, which are concerned for her safety on the job, she went to see an audiologist that gave her information regarding a set of hearing aids that were created with new technology.
These new age hearing aids can be connected to JJ’s smart phone and she can use it to control the features of the hearing aids.
JJ was given the opportunity to wear a demo set of hearing aids & she said the function of those hearing aids was so much better than the old one she had. She said it doesn’t just amplify the sounds she can already hear, it also lets her hear sounds she doesn’t have the ability to hear naturally. The sounds came through much clearer and she could control the volume which helped keep her headaches to a minimum and the migraines were less aggressive while she wore the demo hearing aids. They also give her the ability to hear herself! (she laughs about the fact that she can hear herself)
The costs associated with the model of hearing aids JJ needs are extensive. She has contacted various companies and organizations and requested help with the costs of the hearing aids she needs so desperately, but none of them have the ability to help her with the costs.
Some of the companies and organizations she has contacted are her insurance company, disability, hearing aid company, alternative insurance companies.
If JJ can’t raise the money to pay for these hearing aids, she faces the very real risk, on a daily basis, of being mauled or injured by a scared and/or abused animal.
In addition to working with animals on the streets, she cares for the animals they keep in the kennel and if she can’t hear them growling or moving around, they could attack her.
Please help JJ keep our streets safe for families to walk on and continue to rescue the abused animals, by donating to her fund.
Donating will also help to keep JJ safe while she performs her job!
Even the smallest donation will go a long way to help JJ receive the proper devices that will give her the ability to perform daily tasks with so many more normal functions.
