Izzy's Blood Fund

Donation protected
Dear All, Family and Friends

We are writing to ask for your support in the way of funds.  As some of you are aware, my partner,  Izzy has a blood condition called ITP, its an auto immune disorder where the immune system attacks healthy cells.
We found out incidentally about 2 years ago, no-one knows what caused or triggered it.

Usually when you cut your finger, the blood cells (platelets) clot together to stop the bleeding, but this doesn't happen with Izzy's condition.
Cuts and even small knocks to his body heal very slowly.  An accidental hit on the leg (this happens having kids!) creates impressive huge bruises which spread, and become very painful-taking months to heal.
This is due to his immune system attacking healthy blood clotting cells.
A small blow to the body or cut isn't an issue for him, however a hit on the head or a bigger accident can cause significant internal bleeding and be fatal.

A healthy blood platelet count is between 150-450.  Izzy's are around 15 but at times even lower.
When we discovered the condition, his count was at 7.  Fortunately Izzy's daily life isn't affected, however doctors have told us in accidents which are usually not dangerous at all, with this condition things can become serious, very fast.

To prevent such situations he was put on steroids for long periods, which gave little improvement and counteractive side effects. He's had meds intravenously and bone marrow tests but so far, nothing has changed his extremely low blood platelet count or revealed any way to reverse it.

Now the Dr's, not knowing what else to do and as their last resort, urgently advice to remove his spleen to see "IF" this rectifies the problem.

The chance of such an operation working is 60%
The spleen plays a vital role in the bodies immunity-fighting off virus's and bacteria.
Once the spleen is removed, this gives immediate risk of adverse reaction and serious infection.
The statistics are not encouraging, even a drastic measure such as this may not reverse his condition.

Considering the risk and possibility that after the operation, we may find ourselves in a worse situation where not only is Izzy's body still coping with a dangerously low blood platelet count - but now without a spleen as well, his vital immunity would be deeply compromised too.
Common colds and viruses would affect him a lot worse and unfortunately illness comes around more often with two kids!

We've been informed that any sickness with a fever, he'd be obliged to take antibiotics on and off, his whole life.

We've concluded that the spleen removal is high risk and with all the above factors into account, both Izzy and myself feel this is not a promising option or a step towards health.

The Platelet Disorder Support Association are researching and providing information for people living with ITP.  Any new research I discover through my own.
I will share with other patients and associations.

The in depth research I have done, tells me that most auto-immune disorders can be reversed, or at least stabilized given the right environment and conditions.

In order to try to reset his immune system, we have begun deep cleanses, special diet and exercise.  However we need professional advise on natural non-invasive plant medicines and high quality supplements to support the body further.

Our goal is to find out excactly what will work to help Izzy.  Its a mind-field out there of costly tests, but with specialists advice we'll know which tests to prioritize first.  It will be a matter of trial and error in order to investigate as much as we can, exactly what is the root cause of his condition-and do our best to reverse it.

The funding will be used for visiting two specialist doctors in foreign countries.  It will cover travel expenses, consultation fees, tests and any prescribed medicine or supplements, that Izzy may need to take daily.

Specialist examinations include a variety of in depth blood serum tests, hair mineral analysis, urine and other screenings to identify causative factors, such as toxic heavy metals in the blood as well as deficiencies, leaky gut and possible allergies. Health care practitioners advise to remove the amalgam metal fillings in many of Izzy's teeth as they are eroding and the metal can be very toxic to his blood condition.

Financially times are, and have been tough for us these past two years, which has made it difficult to investigate further than the standard hospital tests and routine.

This is an important underlying issue for us as a family, to do our best at least, to resolve this silent but life threatening condition.

If we could raise 15,000 dk ( €2,000/£1,800 )
This could get us started on consultations and some specialized tests and supplements

If we could raise 35,000 dk (€4,700/£4,100 )
We could do the above and also visit two foreign specialist doctors and start the removal of heavy metal fillings

If we could raise 75,000 dk (€10,000/£8,800 )
We could do all of the above and get most of the heavy metal fillings removed

We'll be grateful for anything you donate, if you are able too.

With much love and thanks,
Melodie &
Izzy
