In Loving Memory of Irving

Donation protected

Irving's wife Joan provided us with the following information to share:

On April 8 at 4:03 a.m. Irving, an amazing warrior, lost the battle with brain cancer, Glioblastoma.
Diagnosed on Dec. 7, he endured a 9 hour brain surgery. It robbed him of his vision and took him to an acute rehabilitation center for 2 weeks. On his return home, he completed 33 consecutive radiation treatments and one round of Chemotherapy concurrently. Two weeks after radiation, our hope began to fade as his condition deteriorated.
After countless CAT scans, blood work, trips to the ER and calls to paramedics, he was hospitalized. An MRI revealed our worst fear. The tumor had returned to every chamber and ventricle of his brain. He was transferred to "comfort care", and given Hospice treatment.
Many of us held vigil until Irving breathed his last breath. It is accurate to say he did not go gently into that good night.
On Sunday 5/20 we will hold a tribute to this beautiful mans' life. It will be at 11:00 a.m in Boulder at the home of beloved friends. All are welcome. For further details contact Joan Block. We respectfully ask that in lieu of other worthy causes or flowers, you donate to www.gofundme.com/IrvingBlock to assist Irvings' family with the major expenses that remain from this devastating illness and subsequent death as they attempt to move forward without him.

Blessings and Deepest Gratitude

My husband, Irving Block, was born in London, England at the end of World War II. His perspective on life was largely shaped by carefully playing around bomb sites and getting groceries with ration booklets. He came to the U.S. with his parents at the age of 17, expecting money to grow on trees. As reality set in, his optimism was sustained by his passion for music. He has always had the most beautiful crooners voice filled with feeling and depth. His idols are Buddy Holly, Elvis Presley, and then, miraculously, the British Invasion and The Beatles. He married, had a daughter, Karni, and a son, Daniel. Karni went on to have his grandson Sean and his granddaughter Summer.

He supported his family as a C.P.A. while playing his beloved guitar and singing for private gigs. At 36 years old, he had a coronary bypass surgery. In his mid-life, we fell in love, married, and adopted our daughter, Alivia. The three of us have faced more than our fair share of adversity, from chronic disease to financial reversal to a near fatal auto accident. It was always Irving's strong but gentle spirit, his wit, wisdom and warmth that carried us through these challenges. He was the kindest, most charitable and caring person I know.
