Inland Hurricane Relief at Danette's Place

Donation protected
On Monday, August 10, a massive "inland hurricane" hit Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Called a "derecho," (straight in Spanish), this storm pushed straight-line winds of 112 miles per hour through the state, flattening and ripping apart what stood in its way. It took 40 minutes before the storm moved on to Illinois. It left in its wake what looks like a tornado hit 20 counties.

Danette's place was hit badly. The "small forest" in her backyard was flattened. Trees that weren't ripped apart were pushed down, roots and all—like her largest oak tree almost 200 feet tall! That one nicked the corner of her home. Other trees landed on her roof.  Thank God that Danette and her mom are safe, as are her dogs.

They have no power in the region. Power's not expected to be back up soon (they were told it could take as long as 16 days before power is restored.)

The clean-up effort at her place is MASSIVE! Her godson, Jackson, came down from Wisconson with a friend to help. Colleagues are planning on driving in from around the Midwest for a few days to help with chainsawing and hauling the debris of 70 plus trees to the curb. Samaritan's Purse stopped by today and said they'll send some folks to help out, also.

This fundraiser is to help feed the crews, to pay for hotel rooms for those coming to help, to put up porta-potties, to keep the chainsaws going, and for expenses not covered by her homeowner's insurance.

For anyone who has been touched by Danette's hospitality, generosity, and her "let's do this together" spirit, would you please help show our friend we care?

Any money donated that ends up not being needed for these purposes will be passed on to Samaritan's Purse to help with their relief efforts in Cedar Rapids.

Thank you!

These two brave young boys drove from Wisconsin to help. More folks are coming in to help this weekend

A neighbor's tree ended up in her driveway. So far, some of this has been cleaned up
