In October 2015 Joel was diagnosed with conjunctival malignant melanoma, a very rare form of melanoma that invades the local tissue of the eye.
Unfortunately despite 4 years of surgeries, radiation, chemotherapy and immunotherapy the cancer has continued to relentlessly grow and is widespread throughout his body including multiple tumours on his brain.
The pain of Joel’s diagnosis and struggle is unbearable. Please give hope to this young family facing a nearly impossible challenge. Joel is a fighter and will do anything to beat this cancer. His strength, humour, fierce loyalty and love for his family are admirable. They have a tough battle ahead of them but with the help of family and friends they will get through this.
Campaign Goals
In September 2019 a clinical trial will open in Toronto that we are hoping Joel be accepted into. With your generous donation to this campaign you will support Colleen and Joel’s imminent travel to Toronto for this treatment.
The secondary goal of this campaign is to provide long lasting support to the Shewchuk family. We want Joel to have peace of mind that his family will not have to struggle financially if this battle should come to a tragic end.
