This is Ilene Walter Robbins, or Ike as she is known to her family and friends. On May 17th, 2013 she saw her life journey change forever - she was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Her shock did not last long as the warrior in her emerged through the darkness.
As she was receiving her first round of chemotherapy, her concern was for the Wounded Warrior Project Walk that she was missing. This is just one example of how Ike gives to others.
Prior to her diagnosis Ike worked two jobs, as a grounds keeper/tree trimmer for the local school district and a massage
therapist at Massage Envy. She shares her home with three beautiful dogs and two frisky cats, all are rescues. Her one dog Ziggy stands out, because he works with Ike as a certified therapy dog team. Together they bring comfort and support to people in their local community. Now Ziggy's mom Ike needs our love, encouragement and financial support.
Ike is currently enrolled in a clinical trial to treat her relapsing disease at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. She has to travel back to Houston twice a month for tests. Following this, she will need a bone marrow transplant to be performed in Tucson, Arizona. Due to her illness Ike is unable to work and the financial impact is dire as medical costs and travel expenses add up!
