Memorial Trees for Ian Santino

Donation protected
Ian Alexander Santino, born July 17, 1986, passed away at sunrise on Tuesday, November 28, 2017, from liver failure due to colorectal cancer. Ian was a beloved son, brother, friend, and partner. He lived an incredibly full and passionate life.

Ian once said that death is a creative act, of energy releasing into the world like a burst of sunlight to be absorbed into other living things. Ian was buried naturally at the Farley Center outside of Madison, WI. We are taking donations to plant a bur oak over him, so that he can become part of the natural world he loved.

This fund is for individuals who would like to contribute to the purchase, planting and maintenance
of two bur oak trees in Ian's memory.

One is to be planted adjacent to his gravesite at the Farley Center in a meadow in the process of becoming a restored prairie.

The other will be planted in the University of Wisconsin Madison lakeshore preserve, where Ian had his endangered prairie brush clover fieldsites for his graduate research.

Bur oak trees are native to Wisconsin, and they will be bought from a locally sourced grower, Johnson's Nursery located in Menomonee Falls, WI.

The trees are scheduled to be planted in the early spring. Will & Hannah Santino, and Caitlin Carlson will be arranging purchase and care.
