Send Richard to the Big Game

A very generous person has offered me their ticket to Super Bowl XLVIII and a place to stay while in New Jersey. All I need to do is pay for air fare, expenses, and of course the ticket.

I've been following the Seattle Seahawks since the late 80's, roughly 25 years and they are going to just their 2nd Super Bowl in 12 short days (Feb 2nd). The last time they went, back in 2006, I was convinced that it would become an annual occurrence from that point on so I didn't even try to go find a ticket (not that I could have afforded it then either). Eight years later, I've learned that it is extremely difficult to get to the Super Bowl. I also have a ticket waiting for me to claim...

Here's the kicker...we have the money for this trip sitting in our tiny emergency fund and our daughter's college fund. On top of that, I'm not down on my luck, injured, diseased, or impaired in any way at all. In fact, it is quite the opposite...I'm blessed with a beautiful family who is happy and healthy, I've got a good job that challenges me on a daily basis, and most importantly a wife that loves me very much...most of the time.

Fortunately, I have a lot of responsibilities. My daughters, Reese (5) and Ryan (2.5) kick my butt and make me incredibly happy. My wife, Kristen, kicks my butt and is the cornerstone of who I am today (though I hate that she is going to read this). As much as I WANT to just pull the money out of savings...I just can't do it. It would be irresponsible...what if I don't get a tax return? What if a tire blows on my wife's car? Those little things can end up big things and we could spend all of 2014 trying to get "caught up" again... I'm just not willing to risk it.

What I am willing to risk is my pride by asking others to help me with what truly could be a "once in a lifetime" opportunity. If you know me, then you would know that I don't ask for help often. Before writing this long-winded article, I tried to think of why I don't ask for help. What I discovered about myself is that it embarrasses me to show others that I don't have it all together.

I swear, my wife has told me a million times that I don't ask for help. She says that it makes asking ME for help difficult in some way. I suppose that she may be onto something and I'm sure it is this whole help issue thing that I have going on...So, in short, this has also become an exercise is learning that asking for help and giving others the opportunity to provide help is one of the coolest human abilities.

So, I would like to present to you with the opportunity to make me extremely happy by helping me to go see my Seahawks play on the grandest stage in all of professional sports. Can you help me out?

Thank you so much for your consideration,
Richard
