Operation Baby Griego

First, we would like to thank those who took time out of their day to read this. As for a little bit about us: My name is Corie and I am married to the most amazing man on this plant; Eric. We have been married for 2 1/2 years. We are both Veterans; Eric a retired Cavalry Scout in the Army who survived a gun shot wound to his neck while serving in Afghanistan in 2010, and me who left the Air Force to care for him full time. For those that know, and those that don't, we have been struggling with infertility for a little over a year now. With patients at our side, we pushed through the first year believing that some couples can take up to a year to conceive a baby. At the start of 2013, we enlisted in the help of a professional; known formally as a Reproductive Endocrinologist. In February of 2013, I was diagnosed with PCOS or Poly Cystic Ovarian Disease. Sparing you the details, this disease caused my body to no longer produce the hormone known as FSH. FSH is responsible for ovulation which means that my body will never ovulate without medical intervention. The first line of treatment for me was a medication called Clomiphene, or Clomid. Clomid reacts within the body as a synthetic FSH and forces ovulation. The down side to Clomid is that it comes with a maximum amount of cycles that can be taken in succession. As of February 2014, I will have reached the maximum amount of cycles I can take Clomid (6 cycles). Along with the Clomiphene treatment, we have undergone two IUI or Inter-Uterine Insemination's. Our last option of treatment is a procedure called In-Vetro Fertilization, commonly referred to as IVF. In-Vitro Fertilization is a process by which an egg is fertilized by sperm outside the body. IVF is a major treatment for infertility when other methods of assistive reproductive technology have failed. The process involves monitoring and stimulating a woman's ovulatory process, removing ovum or ova, (egg or eggs) from the woman's ovaries and letting sperm fertilize them in a fluid medium in a laboratory. The fertilized egg is cultured for 2"“6 days in a growth medium and is then transferred to the patient's uterus with the intention of establishing a successful pregnancy. IVF has an extremely high success rate for women under 35 with diagnosed PCOS. Our goal for 2014 is to undergo IVF treatment and conceive our first baby. Our insurance (along with every other Arizona Insurance Company) does not cover IVF at all. Each donation, no matter how big or small, is a huge blessing for us. We know that we cannot complete this journey alone and we are hoping that our friends and family will be our biggest supporters.
