Nutmeg's Diagnosis...
Nutmeg was diagnosed with a spinal stroke (FCE) and she is fighting to walk again. Her case is severe and is non-operable. It is also incurable. Her progress has been slow and steady with breakthroughs as well as setbacks, and I'm broken hearted. I am doing my best to support her recovery alone.
Who is Nutmeg?
Nutmeg is seven years old and is a Dachsund/Terrier mix. I rescued her from a woman dumping her at a pet store when she was 8-10 weeks old. She was so malnourished that her ribs were showing. She jumped into my arms, licking my ear and I couldn't resist her charm! I was lucky to have been crossing paths at that moment and fell in love with her adorable face and those expressive eyes! (I think she secretly wears eyeliner.)
What Happened?
Nutmeg's spinal injury happened suddenly. She went completely numb from her mid-back to her tail, rendering her hind legs and tail immobile without the ability to urinate on her own and without control of her bowel movements. I was terrified when I saw her in this state and have been working to keep her legs moving and from turning into noodles.
What's Happening Now?
Nutmeg has been in rehab and has made slow and steady progress. She's had major breakthroughs and major setbacks and it's been an emotional rollercoaster ride. I've shed many tears along the way. She went from not being able to move her legs or tail to now doing the underwater treadmill (with assistance)!
What's Needed?
Thanks to all of your donations, Nutmeg began rehab in April 2015 and I've remained consistent although it has been extremely challenging for me. Initially, I was told she'd need rehab for only 4 months. We didn't reach our goal then and have far surpassed it with consequences. But, I just can't sit back and watch her deteriorate. I'm by her side every step of the way cheering her on.
She'll need long term care and rehab. Something that I can't do without your help.
