Housing 4 Underprivileged Students

Donation protected
Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve always dreamed of going to college, earning my degree, and finding a job that I love.  Fortunately for me, my dream of attending college will soon become a reality, as I am a junior in high school.  I am so thankful to be blessed with such loving and caring parents—parents who have worked hard to allow me to have this wonderful opportunity to further my education.

If college, for some unexpected reason, was not to be in my future anymore, I would be devastated.  This is something that I have dreamt of for so long; what would I do if that was to suddenly change?

That feeling is the same one that many people feel on a daily basis.  That feeling is the same one felt by 30 college students in Can Tho, Vietnam.

This past September, my dad traveled back to his home country of Vietnam and visited his aunt, Soeur Marie Calixte Hue at The Sisters of Providence Orphanage.  She told him about the sisters’ efforts to build four housing complexes for the underprivileged college students in the area.  Their parents barely have enough money to send their children to college, but not enough for the housing and provisions that goes along with it.  It would cost approximately $6000 USD*—money that would not only cover the cost of building the complexes and providing two meals a day, but also give these students a renewed sense of hope for their future.

When my dad returned home from his trip, he told me about my great aunt’s cause.  I was immediately intrigued and wanted to help in any way that I could.  I decided to start this fundraiser to raise money to send back to my great aunt.  Knowing that I can help these students—students who are just like me: ambitious, hardworking, and hopeful—makes me feel excited for the future and gracious for the opportunities that I have.  With Thanksgiving fast-approaching, I am counting my blessings and I encourage you to do the same.

I thought that the best way to truly share and understand this project would be through some pictures.

This is a letter written by my great aunt, Soeur Marie Calixte Hue, (in Vietnamese) about the cause:

I realized that the letter is hard to read, so I rewrote it below:

I also translated it into English for those of you who cannot understand Vietnamese:

This is the current progress of construction of the housing complexes:

I would be so appreciative if you could find it in the kindness of your hearts to donate towards this wonderful cause.  Every little bit counts, and I thank you for your generosity in advance.

Sincerely,

Kristina Nguyen

*The cost needed to fund the project is $6,000, but due to some service fees and payment charges, the goal is set for $6,250.  Thank you for understanding.
