On February 3, 2018 Hope Kuchinski was rushed by helicopter to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest from Lehigh Valley Medical Center - Pocono because of a Brain hemorrhage. A blood clot has formed in her brain, causing a brain bleed as well. She was in critical care for 4 days and then on the neuroscience floor for an additional 5 days. Thankfully, they were able to stabilize the brain clot and the bleed with medication, and she is beginning her recovery at home. However, because of the brain trauma, she has lost some of her vision, her cognitive processing is delayed, and she will be on a strict medication routine for the time being, and possibly for life. We do not know what the future holds, but we are determined to remain positive. As a result of this unexpected brain injury she will be unable to return to work for some time, and she will incur various medical expenses between testing, occupational therapy, doctor visits, and medication costs.
About our girl: Hope graduated from East Stroudsburg South High School in 2013 as the Valedictorian of her class. She then attended Middlebury College in Middlebury VT. She graduated college in 2017 with a degree in history and a minor in museum studies with a GPA of 3.7, Magna Cum Laude, high honors. She is passionate about history, the environment, education, and especially the importance of museums. Her internships have taken her to Grey towers in Milford, the Smithsonian National Museum of American History in Washington DC and also to the Nantucket Historical Association in Nantucket Mass. She is currently employed as an administrative assistant with the Monroe County Historical Association, where she very much enjoys meeting new people, providing research assistance, and giving tours among her other duties.
Many of you probably know her mother, Debbie Kuchinski. Debbie is the owner of “Brodhead Brew” Coffee house, located on Crystal Street in East Stroudsburg. It is a family run business and has become very important to the community of East Stroudsburg. Debbie is a local herself, who graduated from East Stroudsburg in 1984 and has lived in East Stroudsburg her whole life. She loves meeting new people, and her biggest dream is to create a sense of community through food, love, coffee, and good company. She has a strong customer base at Brodhead Brew, but it has been and will continue to be difficult to continue to keep the business strong while caring for Hope.
Debbie runs the coffee house for the most part by herself on a daily basis, while also being a single mom. As Hope’s aunt, I am asking for any assistance that you can offer to allow Hope to continue the road of her recovery without the added burden of how she is able to pay her medical bills and for Debbie to have peace of mind that she will be able to pay staff to mind the shop when she is not available to be there. Additionally, times are tough as she had no other option but to close the shop for the entire duration of Hope’s hospital stay. Hope and Debbie love and care for our community more than words can describe, but because of this situation, they need our support.
