Hope for Life Well and Scholarships

When Ben & I moved to Kenya in 2012, we had no idea how much God would truly change our lives. We went with the idea of digging a water well as a business to alleviate the lack of water experienced even in urban area, like Nairobi. We also intended to continue our habit of finding a child who needs assistance with school fees as a part of our desire to give back.

As we have pursued those two goals and settled into our lives in my husband's home country, God has touched our hearts and lead us to use our passions to further the kingdom of God. As we were searching for funding for the well project as we originally envisioned it, a sermon one Sunday really struck a chord with us. The pastor was speaking about vows and covenants with God. He said that when God makes a vow or a covenant, it is forever, no changes, no cancellations, and that when we make vows He will hold us to them, and give us opportunities to live up to those vows.

In talking about the sermon that afternoon, I realized that God has brought me to a place where I can fulfill a vow I made twenty years ago. As a senior in high school, I committed to being a missionary to Africa, but fear kept me from my promise. Years later, God brought Ben into my life and then moved us back to Kenya. After much prayer and discussion, we believed that God would provide the way for me to come back to the US for fundraising. Two weeks later, He had provided the funds we needed, he has continued to provide for our personal needs while we are here raising funds.

We are very close to being able to start pumping water. The excitement is palpable, and we are waiting for our licensing to be approved.  Although the well will be pumping soon, we do still have some expenses (a building loan and land taxes due to build a road).  Our ministry is called Tumaini La Maisha, which means Hope For Life because we believe as Christians we are called to help our neighbors, both by bringing them the Gospel and by helping to improve their lives. Our personal call is to demonstrate God's love while tending to the physical needs of the people we serve.

Once this well is running and paid for, we have been asked by a school in northern Kenya to help them raise funds to dig a well for the school, which they will use to provide water for the school and raise scholarship funds for their students.  Please help us raise the funds we need to finish paying for our current well project and assist on the next project.  God bless you.www.tumainilamaishake.com
