A Message of Hope for Barb Lewis
Two weeks before Christmas last year, our beloved mom and grandma, Barb Lewis, was diagnosed with stage 3 ovarian cancer. On December 29th 2023, she underwent extensive surgery at the Mayo Clinic to remove the cancer from her abdomen. After completing chemotherapy and finishing her last treatment in May 2024, we felt hopeful that she had beaten the disease.
However, on October 29th, 2024, a devastating scan showed a new tumor on her liver. Further testing revealed that the cancer had spread to her lymph nodes and abdomen. Due to the extent and aggressiveness of the cancer, she is no longer a candidate for surgery, and doctors have informed us that the cancer is incurable.
They offered an experimental treatment trial involving infusions every 1-3 weeks, which would require her to travel to Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, six hours from home. While the trial offers hope, it is associated with severe side effects, and no clinical participant has survived longer than two years. The toll of these treatments would be difficult for her, both physically and emotionally.
After much consideration, Barb and our loving and supportive Dad, Rollie, have decided to pursue alternative treatments at an esteemed health center, which promises a better quality of life and less suffering. However, they face significant financial strain from unpaid medical bills from Barb’s previous chemotherapy treatments. This is a heavy burden as they seek to begin the new treatment as soon as possible.
We’re asking for your support in easing the financial pressure on our family, allowing Barb to begin these treatments without further delay. Every donation brings us closer to providing her with the care and comfort she deserves during this time.
We deeply appreciate your generosity and love. Thank you to everyone who has already donated—your support means the world to us.
