Help us build a Home for the needy!
As most of you know, I recently left Equinox after 10 incredible years and life has a funny way of presenting great opportunities when one isn't really looking for them. A couple of days after I left, I was offered to come help my good friends participate in an awesome charity and I realized this is what I had been looking for! A chance to make a difference and instil a sense of purpose in my daugther and restoke my own.
Homes of Hope is an incredible group who travels to areas of extreme poverty and in one weekend, constructs quality homes for homeless families! As a person who has never been homeless, I was never able to comprehend the emotional weight of not have having a roof over your head every night! Also, it gave me a chance to do something I love doing, building/home repair and help needy people at the same time.
It costs about $8000 to build the house and another $1500 to furnish it, we are going with a group so we are hoping to get about 30% of the total cost donated thourgh our friends and family, the rest we will cover, so every penny helps.
This Dec 2nd, all of us, including Ella will be working 12-14 hours for 2 days, building a quality pre-fab home from scratch. Everything from laying foundation to framing and roofing, and if you know me, you know I love this DIY stuff. Since we will be providing the manual labor, we are asking our good friends and family to help us with the material costs. Who knows, maybe next time, and I know we will be doing this again, you can come with us!
It is time for me to focus on a new purpose, one that can help make the world, not just my circle of influence, a better place. Please help me in changing the lives of a family in need, I know I will be forever changed by this!
