HOLDEN NEEDS SURGERY

Donation protected
Hello everyone, I never thought id find myself begging for money on the internet and for those of you who know me my ego and pride makes this difficult. However, my little guy Holden needs help and my pride and ego can take a backseat to helping my best friend.

Holden started limping about two and a half weeks ago. Charlie took him to the vet and they took an x-ray and decided there was nothing there and he was sent home with pain and anti-inflammatories for 7 days. Well after 7 days, I returned from my trip to SF and found him still limping. I took him back to the vet who said it was just inflamed because he wasn't staying off it (he can't resist playing with Hypatia my other border collie) so he was ordered crate rest and another regiment of drugs for another 7 days, I have to point out I insisted multiple times at the second vet visit that they do another x-ray and the vet refused multiple times.

Well another 7 days went by and he was still limping, I took him to the vet yesterday and insisted they do another x-ray and it turns out Holden has a severe fracture about 10% away from being completely broken. The vet compared the initial x-ray and noted that he had MISSED THE SMALL FRACTURE IN THE BEGINNING!

Being in Japan, I go to the vet clinics and use an interpreter, this can be incredibly frustrating because you are never sure of what is exactly being said. This vet explained to me, through an interpreter, that the fracture was in a very unusual place on his "ankle" and that because he had been limping on it so long he had also likely torn the ligament attached and the bones in his paw were beginning to twist.

After this, he then proceeds to tell me that Holden needs a hard cast because of the place of the break and that they do not currently have the supplies to create the said cast. At this point, they say they had called multiple other vet clinics in Okinawa and nowhere has the supplies to makes this hard cast that Holden needs. So they tell me there is nothing they can do AND I HAVE TO LEAVE WITH MY DOGS LEG UNTREATED!

After that, I called multiple clinics myself and all said the same that they didn't do hard casts, eventually, I went to another Vet Hospital, the largest on the Island, and they examined his leg and told me that Holden needs surgery.

They said he will need a pin put in, and there no guarantee it will work, that after the surgery (which they said was very difficult) Holden will need to remain hospitalized for up to 4 weeks. This I guess is standard practice in Japan, they have said it is pivotal that he has barely any movement in order for it to heal properly.

I am devastated, Holden turned 2 in April and deserves to be a happy active Border Collie. He had a rough start to life, he was kept in a cage until he was 10 months and never saw grass, or a ball. When we took him home I said I would do everything in my power to give such an innocent and dependent soul the life he deserves. Well, I feel like I am failing majorly.

This needs to be handled properly if he is ever to do any of his favorite things again without pain.  The vet has quoted us 500,000 yen for the surgery and the hospitalization, this is a little less than 5 grand. One way or the other Holden will get the proper care he needs, but every little bit will help. As many of you know  y husband Charlie is separating from the  U.S military and we are anticipating moving back to the United States in January, which is not cheap. Please donate to help my guy who deserves a happy active life free from pain.
