There’s nothing like a day of hiking in the fresh mountain air, or the restful sleep that comes after. But if you have a traumatic brain injury (TBI), a good night’s sleep can be an unattainable luxury.
A traumatic brain injury causes a host of complex symptoms that often includes anxiety, sleep disorders, coordination and balance problems, depression and increased risk of suicide.
If you enjoy hiking, biking or other physical activities, you already know the many benefits that exercise can bring—increased health and coordination, improved mood, lower stress and better sleep.
Regular exercise also provides an opportunity to tap into a community of likeminded people who share your passion for a sport or activity—a valuable social aspect that Veterans with TBI lack after separating from their tightknit military culture.
Many of the Veterans with traumatic brain injury that Operation TBI Freedom (OTF) works with have found that getting engaged in a physical activity was one of the most crucial factors in their rehabilitation after their devastating injuries.
OTF needs your help to purchase items such as bicycles and other equipment to support our activity programs, registration for races or outdoor adventure programs and activity trackers to monitor exercise and sleep for our newest program we’ll be starting—whatever will best motivate each Veteran to incorporate physical activity into their recovery.
All proceeds will go to Operation TBI Freedom, a privately funded program of Rocky Mountain Human Services, a 501(c)3 nonprofit.
