In November of 2012, a horrific truck accident
changed the lives of a Bloomfield, New York family, the Henry's. Four
of the Henry's daughters were in the truck & all four were injured.
Most parents would agree that this is an unimaginable situation. The most seriously injured was Jessica, she is now paralyzed and uses a wheel chair.
In a conversation with the General Manager of the Victor Home Depot he asked me to reach out to them on behalf of Home Depot to see if they could supply any materials needed to renovate the Henry home to be wheel chair accessible. It was then I learned the Henry's were renting & the current residence was not wheelchair accessible. Amidst mounting medical bills for each of the girls, the family would also need to move, creating even more financial challenges. The whole situation hits home for me as my own Dad was paralyzed in a work accident.
I knew it was time to commit. As an avid bike rider I had been planning to take a long distance bicycle tour on my bike, but for a myriad of reasons I simply never made it happen. It was time to take the challenge: to ride 425 miles via bike till I could tip the front wheel of my bike in the Atlantic Ocean not because it was one of my dreams, but because I knew I could help a family in need. My bike ride now had a purpose, to help the Henry Family.
When the time came to name the ride I asked the Henry Family for input. They knew my Dad's middle name was Henry also and "Henry's Hope" is their suggestion. I like it.
The trip will begin in Bloomfield and travel a total distance of 425 miles. Pedaling 40-60 miles each day and camping by night, I will travel alone and will carry all my supplies on the bike. My goal is to raise $5,000 dollars, or about $11.11 per mile. Please consider joining me to support the Henry Family. Perhaps you can, sponsor a mile with a $12 donation, but really any donation will help.
