Henry needs a service dog ASAP

It is hard to ask for help. However my pride aside I will just write from my heart. I am hoping that others can relate or understand how desperate we require the help and support of our community to give Henry a fighting chance at surviving.

My gorgeous son Henry has a rougher life path then most and his strength so far has been nothing less than inspiring. Henry has ASD (Autistic Spectrum Disorder), anxiety, Clinical depression, Tourette Syndrome and ongoing ear issues.  It has been heartbreaking as a parent to witness the suffering, anguish and pain he goes through regularly. He has the warmest heart and is always thinking of others and now it would be so beautifully karmic if we could gather much needed support to help him survive.

From an early age Henry has suffered self- harming meltdowns and was placed on suicide watch from the age of 8 years old. He requires around the clock care. We have seen so many amazing specialists over the years that have helped immensely however as he gets older it is becoming harder each day for him to connect and feel part of this world. His depression, anxiety and Turrets is increasing rapidly and for this reason it has been highly recommended that he requires an increase in therapeutic services as well as a service dog as quickly as possible!!

A service dog would help Henry to feel a connection to another living being which is what he needs so desperately. The dog would be his companion, friend and much loved family member. His new companion will be trained to assist him when his anxiety levels rise rapidly and unexpectedly by rubbing up against him as a distraction. This works so well with others as the sensory stimulation of the fur acts as a calming technique. This is also a positive focal point to greatly lessen the automatic self-harming actions that he struggles to control when experiencing moments of sorely overwhelming depression. The dog will also be trained to notify others such as myself of an emergency.

Now that Henry is nearly 15 it has become extremely apparent to him that he will struggle to gain independence like his peers and this has added to his diminishing will to live. This is the pinnacle attribute to Henry gaining a service dog. He will have a renowned sense of independence and self-confidence as the service dog can assist him in public places as well as at home. Henry will be supported while in shopping centers; going for walks in public, gaining employment and most importantly the service dog will be trained to help save his life on a regular basis. The most amazing aspect for me as Henry’s parent is the comfort in knowing that the service dog will be trained to push an emergency button that notifies preset emergency contacts such as myself as well as emergency services if Henry was seriously endangering himself during a meltdown.

Henry has overcome so many setbacks and I hold nothing but hope that we can band together to support him through the obstacles that lay before him now.

There are a few ways of going about gaining a service dog and unfortunately the pre trained dogs such as smart pups and other organization have an extreme waiting time, we do not have time to wait!!!! So we have discovered a great group of businesses that are able to help us train Henry’s service dog specifically to his needs.  This will be more beneficial for Henry as he will be learning how to help train his service dog specifically for himself.

Below is an approximate outline of expenses. This is just an approximate figure due to the fact that I have only been able to gain approximate costing at this stage but will constantly be updating the site to keep you all informed. I want to invite you all on this journey with us so I will show updates as regularly as I can. I cannot express how grateful we would be for any assistance you can give! Even if you can only spare $1!

Please share and spread the word! Each day is a new day but it would be the most amazing sense of relief knowing Henry has an increased chance of survival with a service pup.

Thank you for listening to our struggles and we appreciate your compassion and any and all contributions, THANK YOU.

Sincerely

Our Family xx
