The Henry O Flipper Fan Club (HOFFC) wishes to raise awareness of West Point, the Army, and the heroic story of the man, Henry O Flipper.
Henry O Flipper was born a slave in Georgia. After the Civil War and during Reconstruction, Henry O Flipper received an appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point. He was the FIRST African American person to graduate from West Point, the FIRST African American to gain an officer's commission in the United States Military, and the FIRST African American to command US Soldiers. He served as a Cavalry officer in the US western frontier and later served in the US Department of the Interior. The hardships this hero faced must have been immense.
Americans should know who Henry O. Flipper is as well as they know who Neal Armstrong is.
HOFFC is going to buy 1000 copies of Henry O Flippers autobiography and distribute to junior high and high school age students.
It is the hope of HOFFC that the story of Henry O Flipper will inspire students to attend the United States Military Academy, to serve as Army officers, and become leaders. Leaders to change the world.
