Our kitties need a little extra help! The Humane Society of Grand Bahama (HSGB) is the only animal shelter on the entire island of Grand Bahama. It is a non profit and receives no government funding or assistance. The HSGB relies on donations and fundraisers to operate.

The cattery was built three years ago and is a wonderful spacious building where most of the cats can live cage-free in harmony with each other. As time has passed though, there is a need to make some changes to the building. Due to an exceptionally difficult past year, it has also been a struggle to provide everything the cats need medically as well.

The HSGB's cat population fluctuates between 80 and 100 cats and kittens at any given time.

Currently the building is of open air design, all wood construction and this has led to difficulty in fighting fleas, and extreme weather conditions. The building needs to be enclosed, insulated and air conditioned. This can be done in stages beginning with the floor. Estimated cost to complete this is $10,000.

The cats also really need regular flea/tick preventative, nutritional supplements (Lysine) to help prevent respiratory illness, and routine FELV/FIV testing needs to be done on all incoming cats (average 20 per month). The monthly cost of all this is approximately $600.

The great thing about the HSGB cattery is it is spacious enough that cats can live comfortably for extended periods of time. Please help us keep them healthier, safer and more comfortable while they wait for loving forever homes!
