The following story written by my nephew tells our story, please help if you can:
About a month and a half ago, my Grandma was scheduled for a double bypass surgery. As if the stress was not big enough, my Grandpa had a major stroke a week before the surgery. After her surgery the whole family had to take a lot of time off from work in order to take care of my Grandma and Grandpa. This has specially affected my Mom and my Aunt.
After the surgery, my Grandma’s condition worsened. She went back to the hospital, where the doctor discovered a nasty infection in the tissue and bones around the surgery area. She underwent another operation in which they removed her sternum. A day after that surgery, while still in the hospital, and after coughing strongly, she started bleeding strongly from the new bypass area, so she underwent an immediate emergency operation. My Mom and my Aunt have been continuously and courageously juggling countless trips to the hospital, taking care of family, going to work when possible, while still taking care of my Grandpa who is recovering from his stroke and suffers from alzheimer's. He needs continuous attention.
I am writing this letter from the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit waiting room. My Grandma is undergoing her third surgery in one week. We are praying that she pulls through, but even after leaving the hospital in four weeks she has a long road to recovery ahead of her, therefore, a long road of service and care provided by my Mom and Aunt.
My uncle, who lives in another state, has visited when possible and has been helping financially but this is not sustainable. That is why I am asking for your help. Please open your heart to our family. We really appreciate your kindness. God bless you!
