Helping Janet After the Loss of Her Husband

Donation protected
So many of my friends and loved ones have asked what they could do to help with the passing of my dad. And honestly, I wasn’t sure. After giving it some thought, I feel the best thing I could do to honor my dad is to help my mom.

She’s had a difficult life and I would like to remove some of the burdens and make it a little easier. She said it's too painful for her to live in the same house where my dad passed away. I'm helping her with a new house and hopefully a fresh start. At 67 years old, her life is starting over and she could use some help and support.

Just yesterday, Thursday, November 12, 2020, my dad passed away and my mom lost her best friend and husband of 48 years. It's hard losing your dad; I can't even imagine what it's like to lose the love of your life. My mom and dad met at a military social event and married in 1972. They stood faithfully next to each other all of their lives through thick-and-thin. She has been dependent on him all these years.

My parents started off with big dreams and a bright future. I just hate that so much of what they hoped for never came to fruition. Their lives have been marked by sacrifice, but also hardship. Dad broke his neck while working in a rock quarry in 1982 and it severely limited his working career. He continued to work for many years until he became physically disabled. My dad was a loving, kind, gentle, and generous man. He helped so many people even though he had little. He was quick to offer his help, a ride, his time, etc.

Over the past 7 years of his life, he fought a hard battle with Alzheimer’s disease. My mom has put everything on the back-burner to take care of him. Earlier this year, he had a series of strokes that took away his capacity to walk, talk, feed himself, etc. My mom was his full-time caregiver and never once complained about it. She could use a well-deserved break and a fresh start.

About six months ago, my mom told me she didn't want to stay in the same house after my dad passes away.  I have purchased a house that is being renovated for her and it will be ready in the next month or so.

She doesn’t have much and lives on a tiny Social Security check each month. I would love it if we could buy her furniture and appliances for her new house, as well as all of the essentials that are needed to make a house a home. If there's enough, I would love for her to be able to have some self-care.

If you would like to help me honor my dad, please consider contributing to this fund to help my mom.

Love you all~
