Colchester Community Poetry Project
Hello, My name is Alice Goss, and I have made it my mission to help end homelessness in Colchester. After a period of being unemployed for 15 months, I came very close to be homeless myself. The appalling situation I found myself in was a wake-up call to the sheer scale of the problem and to the plight of those who found themselves in this terrible position.

The homeless situation in Colchester, as in other towns, is rising alarmingly and there are too many people living on our streets, all trying to access the few resources that are open to them. There are many people and organisations in the town who are trying to assist them, Beacon House, Emmaus and the Colchester Rough Sleeper's Group, along with many individuals who give up their time to help this sector of our community. This book will help raise awareness of this issue, highlight the work of various charitable projects within the town and raise money to help these people rebuild their lives. Yes ‘our community’ as these homeless people are as important in our town as those with homes to go to. How would you feel if someone you knew or a family member was sleeping in a doorway in wet, freezing conditions? There is a small army of volunteers who give up their time to help homeless people with outreach support.

So, what exactly is this Community Project? This project is to help publish a poetry book, consisting of 75 poems about Colchester's history and well-known landmarks,  accompanied by 50 photos, 15 illustrations, numerous articles and more. The finished book will be in hard back, around 200-250 pages and all the profits generated will go to help fund various homeless projects/charities and organisations within Colchester. I already have several local businesses and organisations who are contributing their resources for free,  but this project needs money for the actual printing of the books.

The official book launch will be at the Colchester Arts Centre on 14th October 2018 with an evening of poetry and music. With the support of this funding page and the book sales, the expected revenue to help Colchester's homeless would be astimated at £10-20k. All the money raised will go to fund homeless projects in Colchester to help all those homeless people rebuild their lives including: Emmaus, St. Peter’s Guest House Project, Colchester Rough Sleepers Group (bus conversion project), Night shelter and the food bank. By helping the food bank, I can also help struggling families and help keep them above the poverty line.

Please support this project and help Colchester's homeless community.
Thank you,
Alice
