Ana's Medical Expenses & Transplant

Donation protected

Hello - My name is Ana. On July 1, 2013, I was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. I had been laid off from my job as an Engineer a couple of months before, and did not have health insurance.  The initial bill for the first 23 days in the hospital was over $500,000.
Because I have always had very good jobs, and my husband's pension is decent, I was not eligible for charity care or Medicaid or any other form of financial assistance. I did qualify for Medically Needy Medicaid, which is based not just on income but on medical expenses, but, ironically, it does not cover hospitalization.
I took advantage of the Affordable Care Act, and I bought a health insurance plant that will cover 80% of the costs.
I still need treatment: bone marrow biopsy, chemotherapy, follow up, and a bone marrow transplant. My oncologist/hematologist office informed me on 1/21/13 that with my insurance, my portion of one bone marrow biopsy alone is $2,000; after the transplant, I am looking at prescriptions that cost approximately $12,000 a month, and I am  not sure what percentage the insurance will cover.
If you are able to help me raise these funds, you will be helping me stay alive and healthy... and I will be eternally grateful for your generosity.....
I've shared a recent picture with  my mom, one of my favorite post-treatment photos, because it shows  shows the optimism I feel about my future.
