Tommy Downs Medical Recovery

As many of you know by now, Tommy had just completed his eight (8) week recovery from a gruesome fall he had over the summer when he landed back in the hospital again after suffering from a brain bleed. Tommy is the main provider for his household, working two jobs. He has already used up all of his FMLA leave provided through his full time position and the other job doesn’t offer benefits as it is a part time lawn mowing service he provides to many residents and small businesses in town each week; it is unknown at this point whether he will ever return to either. The Downs’ are a proud family but as a Fire Company we are a family too and we need to help our own.
When you hear the name Tommy Downs you automatically think – dedicated, loyal, hardworking, strong-willed…and yes stubborn too. We all know that he would never ask for help which is why we are setting up this Go-Fund-Me account FOR him. This is a man that has played a pivotal role in giving back to his community for over half his life. He has been a member with the Leesburg Volunteer Fire Company for 48 years…forty eight years just let that sink in for a moment.
Tommy has gotten through brain cancer and that grisly fall this summer in which the first responder on scene thought he was dead and the medic who transported him didn’t think he would make it through the night. Tommy is going to get through this battle too but it is a long, long road to recovery with how many unknown obstacles we don’t know. He will be transported to a local rehabilitation facility in which he is going to have to learn to walk and talk, and everything in between all over.
Please find it in your heart to give to this family that has been through enough heartache this year, let’s help ease their struggle! Bills add up quick and they will have their hands full enough with keeping Tommy in line and in shape to worry over things that we can help with!
