Our friends in need, Tim and Brenda Zettle

To all the friends of Tim and Brenda this is a good time to let you know that things are getting better. After a very long and difficult 2017, things are finally looking up for Tim.

Just to let everyone know how we got here this is a recap of the trials and tribulations of the last 6 months. Tim began having seizures in June which the Doctors treated with medication, regrettably with limited success. One major seizure occurred when Tim was on a ladder working on his garage. The resulting fall left him with a broken back, jaw and neck injuries. Brenda called 911 and an air evacuation landed Tim in the hospital followed by an extended home stay while his injuries healed. We were all happy to see Tim back on his feet. Unfortunately, the seizures resurfaced as Doctors struggled to fully diagnose their cause. After months of trial and error a visit to Boston yielded a different and urgent prognosis. A tumor on the brain had been growing since August and would need to be removed immediately. So now for a bit of good news. Surgery took placed on January 10th followed by weeks of rehab before a return home to Vermont today.

So now the road to recovery starts all over again. It has been a hard road and will be for quite some time! The future holds six weeks of radiation therapy and six months of chemotherapy. Luckily those services are available locally and will allow them to be home with friends, family and of course pets. The commitment that lies ahead involves therapy and treatments three days a week. While we all have Tim on our minds let us not forget how this affected their family as Brenda has been at his side throughout this whole time. Her strength is truly amazing and worthy of admiration.

Now for the friends in need part. Like so many of us, an unexpected emergency can take its toll both emotionally and financially. While health insurance is a wonderful safety net its often a net with a few holes in it. The unexpected and unavoidable costs of being displaced and out of work is a large burden. Faced with paying a sizable deductible and ongoing travel expenses the road ahead for Tim and Brenda is an expensive one. To help them we have established a “fund me” page. Thank you for taking the time to read this and may we all wish Tim and Brenda a smoother ride down the road they now travel together.
