Help Shanna Beat Cancer!

In June we received the news that our mom, Shanna, has bladder cancer. The past few weeks have been a whirlwind of information gathering, appointments, and worry.  After many tests and multiple preliminary surgeries, the prognosis (we hope) is good! We are now looking for our community's help in getting her through the next steps - so that she can beat this disease.  

We now know that her basic treatment plan will consist of at least eight weeks of chemotherapy, time to let her immune system rebuild, and then a more extensive surgery, followed by a long recovery period. Mom is blessed to have Medicare and a good supplemental plan that will cover most of her medical expenses, but she will need to take a substantial amount of time off of work for her treatment. As of now, it's looking like she will be on disability for at least six months, and her income will be significantly reduced during this time. 

She is going to need financial support to meet other day-to-day expenses (e.g. mortgage, transportation to and from UCSF, utilities, groceries, other bills, etc.). Any funds donated will go directly towards assisting her in the coming months. We will also be setting up a separate page on lotsahelpinghands.com to address non-monentary assistance in the coming weeks once we have pinned down specific dates & needs.

Those of you who know her know that Shanna has a gentle spirit, is devoted to her family, and has spent her whole professional career helping others who've needed support. She approaches life with with kindness, humor and grace.  Any assistance that you can provide in easing her way through this trying time would be greatly appreciated by all of us who love her.
