Just 13 days ago the worst time of our lives began and this is truly just the beginning. My husband and I got an urgent sounding phone call from mom while on our anniversary trip. She told me that dads foot and leg were swollen. We immediately left and came home and tried to intervene. He wouldn't come with us to ER. The next morning we called the Paramedics and he was quite surprised to see them follow us into his apartment. They assessed him and our prayers were answered. He agreed to go with them.
My sweet daddy was diagnosed with Stage 4 Prostate Cancer. He had surgery to slow down the spreading of the cancer cells, however, it is already very advanced. The MRIs now show that it is Metastasis and has spread to his Pelvis, Spine (lesions on spine), Hips (impending fracture in Hips) etc
He was my moms caregiver and I quickly had to find her a Nursing Home as she has had 4 strokes and every 2 minutes is new. I am not thrilled with the nursing home but for now it will do until we get things figured out with Dad.
They tried to get my dad to go home 3 mornings in a row, which really angered me and scared him. This was prior to them ever doing the MRIs!!!!Palliative care ordered them, at least someone finally used their brain.
My dad is VERY underweight which makes it all the more scary. His spine is bump after bump. No "meat" at all.
The last 10 days I have spoken to social workers, doctors, nurses, case workers...I've had to get really assertive also because often times even "professionals" do not follow through with what is best for the patient nor do they communicate between specialists and stay consistent. It is very confusing for my dad. I get angry and then I start making phone calls. If that doesn't work I will go in person too. I will always go to bat for my loved ones!
At this point we don't know what the future holds. Its a waiting game and we are sick of it. Tomorrow or Monday I will demand answers! They say they can't say what the next step should be until they get all the test results back but they mentioned potential surgery.
My dad is the most loved patient on the floor. Despite the hell he is facing he makes everyone on the staff laugh. I love him so so much!!
Please pray that we are guided in the best direction for him thriving!
