Be a Hero and Save Jack the Cat

Donation protected
My name is Jack. When I was 7 weeks old, I was abandoned and left to starve, my mom rescued me and nursed me back to health. Since that time, I've shown my gratitude every day, comforting her when she was sick, giving kisses and gummy nibbles (I've been toothless since I was 3 years old!), learning tricks to show off how smart I am, cuddling with her at night and being a great friend to her three other rescue cats.

But in the last few years, our family has gone through hard times. After making it through a divorce, 7 months of unemployment and thousands of dollars in unexpected medical bills, mom finally landed a promising entry-level position with a humanitarian organization.  She was so glad to finally begin paying off her medical debt and to plan for a future in the nonprofit world.

Soon after starting her job, my sister and I were both diagnosed with cancer less than two months apart. My sister's cancer is terminal and she is being helped by an inexpensive drug called prednisolone. My story, however, has turned out to be a bit different.

(that's my mom and me the day I was diagnosed with a rare but curable form of nasal lymphoma. The lump on my head above my eyes appeared overnight and caused me to be very foggy and confused from pressure on my brain)

After being told that a CT scan and biopsy would cost $6,000 alone, my mom was crushed and began a frantic search to find an oncologist who could diagnose the extent of my cancer and treat me for less. Mom found an amazing oncologist from Veterinary Cancer Center who immediately recognized the type of lymphoma I had and told mom that I had up to a 73% chance of being cured with a round of minimally invasive chemotherapy. In Manhattan, my treatment would have been more than $10,000, but by going to a treatment center twice-monthly on Long Island and with drugs from compounding phamacies, I can be cured for half that cost.
(On my way to see the oncologist with our friend who generously donated her time to drive us there.)

But I cannot be cured without your help. Having exhausted all lines of credit to pay off her own medical debt and living paycheck-to-paycheck, Mom has spent her savings and sold her small inheritance of jewelry and family silver to cover the $1,200 it has cost just to diagnose me.

If 555 people give just $9, my chemotherapeutic drugs, doctor's visits and blood tests will be covered. Every donation will go directly to my care and any amount beyond $5,000 will be donated to The Humane Society to help other animals in need.

(Just one week after my first chemo treatment. The lump on my head is gone and I'm back to my playful, loving self)

My oncologist believes that I can be cured. My mom believes it too, and she believes in the goodness of people. She also believes in paying it forward. From our little family to yours, whether you give $1 or $100: Thank you for everything. You're heroes to us.
