My beautiful wife Rachel Carter's battle with breast cancer, and a host of additional health issues has been deeply traumatic for both of us. She was diagnosed in January, 2018 and has undergone three surgeries. The most recent surgery being a full mastectomy of her right breast and removal of four lymph nodes. The good news is the cancer has not spread to the lymph nodes. Unfortunately, the margins are very close to the muscle so Rachel will need radiation, which is typically not needed for a mastectomy. Rachel will also need hormone therapy which conflicts with her existing reproductive health challenges and puts her at risk for additional health challenges, including additional cancers. Rachel is suffering severe anxiety and depression as well as nerve damage from the second surgery which limits her mobility and ability to function (cook, clean, use a computer, etc.). She is still not able to work and her timeline to try to even think about her career continues to be set back. Even though we have health insurance, Rachel's cancer journey has created a daunting financial situation for us and we are exploring a variety of options.
The support of our Go Fund Me has been tremendous and has gotten us to where we are. We are trying with one last attempt to reach our goal - we are so close and this will allow us to get through radiation and begin the process of navigating hormone therapy.
Can you please help us reach our goal? We are so very grateful and thank everyone who has and hopefully can still offer us support. The mental anguish of asking for help for so long has taken a toll on both of us and we want to be able to close this campaign as successfully reaching its goal and move our energies elsewhere.
