Rich Wines is an incredible man. If you say the name "Mr. Rich" around Dexter Community Schools, everyone knows who he is. Compassionate, empathetic, loving, helpful, unconditional, trustworthy, hard-working, timeless, extraordinary....these are only some of the words to describe Rich.
Two years ago, Rich was told his cancer, thymoma, was back. Again. He already battles Myasthenia Gravis, an autoimmune neuromuscular disease which causes the skeletal muscles to weaken.
In October 2017, a reaction to a new auto immune disease put Rich in the hospital for 3 weeks, which would be followed by treatement in a rehab center. The muscle disease was so active the doctors placed a port in to help filter his blood. As this was happening, the port became infected and he had to be hospitalized. As if it couldn't get any worse, blood clots started to form and he had to have surgery to get rid of the blood clots before they could attack the infection from the port.
On November 29, 2017, Rich was released to rehab in Pinckney, where he is receiving IV treatments every four hours to make sure the virus doesn't come back into his system. We are hoping he will come home January 9th.
Rich has helped countless people. Whenever someone mentions his name, their face lights up and someone tells a story of how he helped them or a friend out. He is an amazing man - there is no other way to describe it. He has been active in Dexter schools for years. He has helped out athletic teams, booster clubs, students, teachers, and parents. Now he needs our help. He needs the community's help in his time of need. Due to his illness, he is unable to work and he isn't sure if he will be able to return to work.
Any and all donations will go towards the expenses Rich has incured since he's been sick. Please donate to him and help him the way he tirelessly helps everyone else.
