Ever since I was a little girl I had a fascination for science, health, and caring for others. It became a goal of mind to pursue Nursing as a career so that I could help people within and without the United States. Traveling around the world helping others has always been a passion of mine.
I have had the privilege to travel to Mexico every spring break while in High school to help build houses; to Turkey in 2005 to teach English; and to the Philippines in 2006 to help build a playground for a children's orphanage.
This will be a completely different experience. I will be traveling to India; the state of Andhra Pradesh and the city of Hyderabad and surrounding areas such as Agra. I will be travelingwith 11 other students to provide Healthcare to 12 different colonies that suffer from Leprosy. This disease attacks nerve endings, destroying the ability to feel pain and injury. The patients are more susceptible to ulcers, infections, and have the ability to loose limbs if not treated effectively. This disease can also lead to blindness and facial disfigurement. Many of these adults and children will suffer from other conditions in addition to Leprosy that may be untreated. These conditions may include; hypertension, diabetes, malnutrition, anemia, respiratory infections, skin conditions and wounds. It will be our main focus to provide these individuals with proper wound care, medication, and education.
I am extremely honored and grateful to have been 1 out of 12 students who have been accepted for this wonderful opportunity. However, I have less than 2 months to raise $3200 for this trip and I am asking for any possible donation you feel in your heart to contribute.
This $3200.00 includes the following:
1. Air Transportation from any US city serviced by the selected airline from the U.S. to Hyderabad, India and return, including air taxes.
2. All Ground Transportation in India associated with team events.
3. Two meals a day (breakfast and dinner) while in India (when available). These are meals we share as a group and are planned and allotted as part of the cost of the experience. Lunch will be on your own.
4. Transportation while in India, including air fare to and accommodations in Agra.
5. Travel Insurance.
6. Translator Services.
7. Entrance to theTaj Mahal.
8. Cultural experience.
9. Water.
