"How Can I Help" Lee, Nikki, K

Hello, my name is Kelly. As a friend of Nikki, Lee and Kaylee, I wanted to help out as much as I can. From my own experiences with having someone I love battle cancer, when fighting this disease, it can take everything out of you... energy, time, money and more. So many people will approach you and ask, "what can I do to help?" or "call me if you need anything." The questions and sentiments are sincere, but so often the person who is sick and the family of caretakers, just doesn't know how to ask for help. They feel guilty bringing people into their problems, or just too exhausted to try and talk to anyone.
There are many ways you can help. First, pass the word whenever you can, so that the Higginbotham's don't need to repeat the updates and news over and over. Share this on your Facebook wall, or Tweet it on Twitter. In addition, please donate money if you can. Donations will assist the Higginbotham family as the hospital bills for Lee's visits and chemotherapy mount. Donations will help with the holidays coming up when more bills tend to mount due to the season itself, heating bills, etc.
If you can't afford to donate, but wish to help, donate some of your time. Can you take Kaylee to a movie, or Nikki out for a hot cup of tea? Caretakers need to recharge their energy stores as well. Can you offer to come in once a week (set a date, and follow through) to help clean the house or do laundry? Are you able to donate a meal once a week (pick a date... taco Tuesdays anyone?) Be sure to work around Nikki's and Lee's schedules, but every little bit is certain to help ease their burdens.
It would also really help to PASS THIS ALONG to all of your friends, family, church members and clubs. The more people who can help, the more relief we can provide.
Here's Lee's story:
Lee Higginbotham became sick at the beginning of August 2014. After many doctor appointments and ER visits, where they were told many different things as a diagnosis to Lee's pain and illness, finally one doctor, toward the end of August, said that it was Lee's gallbladder that needed to be removed. Lee was referred to another doctor who admitted him immediately and ran additional tests. These tests proved that there was NOTHING wrong with his gallbladder. Still with no answers, more tests were run. They found masses on Lee's liver and the lymph nodes around his stomach and esophagus were enlarged. After a few more tests, including and endoscopy, the diagnosis was found to be one that has already haunted the Higginbotham's in the past: CANCER.
Pancreatic Neuroendocrine Tumor was what the specific diagnosis was. Immediately, they began a course of chemotherapy. As of 9/16/14, they still do not have a prognosis, and may not for a few more weeks.
