Hello! My name is Angie Cramblit and I'd like to first thank you for clicking on this page and taking the time to read Leah's story.
A very dear friend of mine, Leah Harrell age 29, is a loving wife and mother to 2 children. Aja 4 , Miles 2 and she is currently 29 weeks pregnant with their 3rd child, a little boy. About 3 months ago Leah noticed swollen lymph nodes on her neck. After seeing multiple doctors and having tests done Leah recently received her diagnosis that would forever change their lives...Hodgkins Lymphoma, stage currently unknown.
While awaiting the visit with the oncologist, Leah and her husband John are trying to prepare themselves mentally, physically and financially for the many struggles ahead. What we do know is once the baby is born Leah will begin her fight by starting chemotherapy.
What we know about the baby....He will be taken prematurely by 36 weeks gestation so Leah can begin her treatment. What we don't know yet is how early Leah will have to deliver but she is told between now and March 4th. Her due date isn't until April 1st. This puts their baby at risk for many preterm delivery complications. It is likely he will be in the NICU for an unknown amount of time.
Both Leah and her husband work as Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants. They do have insurance, but their out of pocket costs are still thousands of dollars. Also take into consideration their monthly living expenses. Leah and John are both financial providers for their family. In addition to Leah being out of work for an extended amount of time, John will now need to take time off work and become the sole caregiver for Leah and her needs, Aja and Miles and their needs as well as the needs of their premature baby.
