Halle's Proposed Farm

Donation protected

The City of Green is releasing their beautiful, historic landmark, the Levi Hartong Farmstead, into the hands of a trusted farmer. The farm stands as a humbling reminder of what cultivated the local economy back in the early 1800s. As Green developed into a booming city with strong local businesses and also became a desirable place to raise a family, the Levi Hartong farmstead remained a preserve, an oasis.
What an oasis it is! With rolling grasses, singing bogs, towering trees, forests of wildflowers, and ponds of life, this farm is not just a farm at all, but a thriving ecosystem, a working community.
Holding a treasure such as the Hartong farmstead, the City of Green wanted nothing more than to allow it to remain in its natural state and become a working farm again. Considering the delicacy of the species within the farmstead and surrounding park, Green is looking for a farmer that is willing to farm the land organically and sustainably, considering the importance of the continued health of the ecosystem.
The parties interested in becoming said farmer must go through a selection process which includes submitting a detailed proposal for the property and going through an interview process.(Visit Green's website to learn more about the property and farm initiative: http://www.cityofgreen.org/hartong-rfp )

Halle is a young woman who is motivated and driven to continue learning, observing, and synchronizing with nature to facilitate the growth of bountiful nutrition.
A Sustainability/Biology graduate of Baldwin Wallace University, Halle is committed to responsible stewardship practices, in all operations, that promote the livelihood of the ecosystem as well as the community.
For her operation, Halle will propose a highly-diversified, organic fruit and vegetable farm. Most, if not all, work on the farm will be done either by human or horse. She will study, explore, and implement various sustainable farming methods throughout the farm such as no-till, rotational grazing, chicken tractors, cover crops, companion planting, permaculture design, and many more. Halle places a strong emphasis on education and community outreach/involvement and plans to have a variety of public events, classes, and demonstrations throughout the seasons. Eventually, Halle would love to obtain a small heard of sheep, from which she can harvest wool.

However, to allow any of these wonderful things happen, Halle needs your help and support. The proposal asks to include a number of things, two of which are proof of funding and labor to support the farm proposal.
Halle is trying her hardest to gain approval for a start-up farm loan to cover initial costs such as seed, equiptment, a draft team, tools, etc.. However, this task has proven to be quite difficult considering the farm is not guaranteed. Therefore, she has decided to create a GoFundMe crowd funding campaign to help prove that this farm can get up and running and making a positive impact in the community in no time. ***

Please donate, offer possible volunteer hours, and share this information to vote for healthy food, healthy ecosystems, and healthy generations to come.
