My friend Deano...
Deano and I became friends when my husband and I decided to retire and move to Hot Springs Village, Arkansas. As we were renovating our house, our painter recommended Deano to tackle our complicated winding staircase renovation. Deano took on our project as if were his own. Although the project was more involved than he (or we) foresaw, he never complained or adjusted his bid...he just plugged along applying his unique "Deano" carpentry skills to our project. Throughout our time together, I got to know Deano, and during our daily conversations, I learned that his approach to life is truly guided by his kind and gentle heart.
Three weeks ago Deano was driving his beloved 20 year-old truck to a job, and was hit by an elderly driver...no fault of Deano’s. His truck careened into the woods adjacent to the byway and was totaled. Because Deano suffered injuries to his neck and shoulder, his insurance company needed X-rays and a medical evaluation. The X-rays that were taken of the neck and shoulder area also caught a small area of his lung. That area looked suspicious to the radiologist who immediately called in one of the hospital's cancer specialists. Deano was immediately admitted to the hospital for a biopsy of his lung. The diagnosis for cancer is positive. BUT! THE EXTENT OF TH CANCER IS UNKNOWN BECAUSE HIS INSURANCE WILL NOT READILY COVER THE PET SCAN NECESSARY TO THE EVALUATION OF THE EXTENT OR STAGE OF THE CANCER!!!!!
As a result of the injury to and semi-paralysis of Deano’s arm, he is unable to work. The longer he has to wait for his PET scan and treatment the more his cancer will progress.
I am reaching out to my friends and family, Deano’s friends and family, and anyone who is touched by his story to help him in this time of need. He really, really, really is the best!!!!!
