Everybody Eats is a food industry partnership that includes: Wecycle Atlanta Inc., The Cute Shuttle, and more. Together, they have activated a community responsive, African American led, food system in The Historic Ashview Heights.
ASHVIEW HEIGHTS: The First Planned African American Community In Atlanta.
Ashview Heights was the first planned developments by Atlanta’s African American middle-class community in the 1920s, but the economic vitality changed drastically due to public housing in the 70's, and predatory lending in 2008; which saw the community decline to a median income of $15,000 by 2010. It is located in the southwest corridor of the City of Atlanta, and has had a rich Agricultural History starting in 1995 with the Ashview Community Garden. Then led by Robert and Martha Abensett, it paved the way for organizations such as Truly Living Well, and Wecycle Atlanta to continue to grow food and community through a food system that includes farm land, electric shuttles, and a brick and mortar food hub.

Ashview Heights has the necessary institutions, relationships, and infrastructure to continue the reach of a food system that reduces food insecurity while increasing, relationships, employment, capital, partnership and overall quality of life for COVID-19 and beyond.

ACTIVATED FOOD SYSTEM COMPONENTS:
Everybody Eats Food Stand:
The EBE Food Stand is a local community market in partnership with The Westview Grocer that sources produce from TLW, Atlanta Good Shepherd Community Church, and Metro Atlanta Urban Farm, as well as non-perishable canned goods and sanitation items from donors with great success of getting it directly to the people who need it the most. We practice social distancing and other safety measures in order to make nutrient dense food available to community members of Ashview Heights once a week with Hot Meals on Sunday.
Everybody Eats Senior Delivery:
The EBE Senior Delivery program Is a logistical effort to get fresh produce boxes to seniors at the Atrium. During the Covid-19 the nation began to give out a chilling reminder about how isolated and vulnerable our senior populations are. Due to “panic buying” seniors were left with little access to essentials and fresh produce. The Everybody Eats Collective reached out to the Atrium Senior Living Housing Center to check on their need for these items and it was confirmed that the seniors were vulnerable and worried about food, safety, and isolation. We inform them of the capacity to feed their seniors during the emergency crises with our partners, and within 3 days we fed over 200 seniors using safety procedures and social distancing thanks to the aid of local farms and donors.
Everybody Eats With Helping Hands:
The Everybody Eats Volunteer Troup is a volunteer labor force guided to aid food system production benchmarks through coordinating trained hands to volunteer in neighboring farms, the food stand, and canvassing, and surveying the community to determine needs.

RESULTS, DATA FINDINGS, & INFLUENCE:
By The Numbers The Everybody Eats Coordination has aided:
- Everybody Eats Together has received $25,093 worth of food donations from 25 suppliers, inclusive of individuals, local farms, and neighboring institutions
- Based on a sample size of 106 households in SW Atlanta, the average weekly spend is $60
- Food security of the most vulnerable populations (with a focus on seniors, homeless, and youth)
- Coordination of hyper local entities and institutions within Ashview Heights
- Funding and support for growers, chefs, couriers, and local farms and businesses.
- The collective engagement of community institutions, organizations and community “leaders”
- Support to other initiatives in Ashview Heights Upon a food system model that provides services under normal, unfamiliar, and/or emergency circumstances

For our activated Community food system to be more effective, it will be continuously aiding component through a collaboratively designed, facilitated, and evaluated. The comprehensive components and activities of the system to increase and sustain food security in Ashview Heights include:
- The continued assessment of the food insecurity in the defined community
- The continued assessment cost of food system implementation during crisis and beyond
- Crop planning, planting, harvesting and processing by trained hands
- Food sourcing and meal preparation
- Meal and food Distribution
- Waste recovery
- Increased funding to support the Food Stand and Senior Deliveries
- Seed funding to revive "The Ashview Community Garden"
- Seed fundings to expand into The Everybody Eats Food Food Hub
- Seed funding to establish the Atlanta Food System Fund to aid local food industry workers of color
It's tough times everywhere as well as Ashview Heights. With Ashview Heights being a model community of historic nature, turned degraded due to poverty and malpractice, has the opportunity to show the world how to make sure that Everybody Eats Together through coordinate community assets while and innovative community engagement strategies.
