~ Help Dawn become an RN ~

Donation protected

Hi! This is Dawn's husband Stan.

Dawn became an RN!! Story update at the end...

I started this campaign for Dawn with the hope and confidence that she can finish school and reach her calling of becoming a Registered Nurse.

The Call to Become a Nurse.
Dawn has spent the past 14 years as a make-up artist for MAC Cosmetics.

As an artist, she worked within walking distance of CHOC (Children's Hospital Orange County) and St. Joseph's Hospital giving her the opportunity to share her make-up skills with chemo patients.
Seeing how much joy that a simple make-up application could bring as well as building their self esteem and making them feel beautiful during a most difficult time, she felt called to do more than just apply make-up.
This is what led Dawn to realize that her passion is helping and caring for people suffering from cancer by becoming a registered nurse.

Good bye full time job. Hello full time student!
In January 2014, Dawn left her full time job to become a full time student in the Santa Ana College Nursing Program. As you might imagine, losing a full time income has placed quite a challenge on our household. Thus far, her textbooks, supplies, scrubs, immunizations & tests, etc. have come to over $2,500. And of course, we still have to pay our rent every month and every day living expenses.

School so far...
~ Dawn completed and loved her first semester!
~ She was nominated and elected class president.
~ She is a member of Phi Theta Kappa.
~ She is a member of the National Student Nursing Association.
~ Her current GPA is 3.88.
~ Always willing to help, she started tutoring a few classmates which caught the eye of the student services coordinator who asked if she would like to be an official school tutor. So starting in the fall, Dawn will be a school recognized tutor, helping first semester students!

The Ultimate Goal...
When Dawn graduates from the RN program, her ultimate goal is to work at CHOC (Children's Hospital Orange County) as a Pediatric Oncology Nurse. Not many people have what it takes to have a full time occupation caring for kids with cancer, but Dawn is one of those rare people actually drawn to them! Recently, she volunteered as a MAC artist to do make-up for the CHOC patient's prom and felt right at home!

The biggest challenge...
Living in Orange County on a single income is next to impossible! We've had to put Dawn's school expenses on credit cards and use our savings for living expenses. Our savings will run out in a couple of months and thus far my income hasn't been enough to cover all of our expenses... so that's why you're reading this Go Fund Me Campaign.
We're taking a huge step in Faith and trusting that our needs will be met until Dawn's graduation which will be in the Fall of 2015.

Our biggest fear...

We've got a little over a year to go, and our biggest fear is that Dawn will have to leave the nursing program and start working full time again.

We don't believe that God would give Dawn such an awesome calling only to have it taken away over something like money!

A plug for me, too!
While I'm not asking for donations, I'm always looking for additional work. So if you (or anyone you know) needs a sound tech, help with social media branding, marketing & promotion, event production or music business consultation/career direction/development... keep me in mind! Help Dawn become an RN!
If you believe in helping Dawn, please consider a donation of any amount to allow her to become what she was called to be!
And if you believe in prayer, we do too... and we'd be honored if you'd remember us in your prayers!
Thanks and Blessings!

UPDATE: Dawn Became An RN!

Dawn graduated with honors on December 12, 2015!

She still has to take her license exam (the test date is coming up soon and she has been studying like crazy!)
to get employed as an RN. Once Dawn is employed, she will still need to enroll in a BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing) program for continued employment. A BSN is pretty much now a requirement to be employed at a hospital. The good news is that she can do a part-time online program while working. The bad news is that it will cost about $12,000!
We're also running short on funds due to the fact that there is no financial aid or student loan money available and my 2nd job stopped a couple months ago for the winter (and most of my freelance work dried up, too). So until I find more work and Dawn gets work, we're still hoping for continued donations to help pay the rent & other bills. We're trusting that the Lord has brought us this far and He's not going to stop now!

Thanks again for your prayers and support... you truly made the difference in Dawn becoming an RN!
