Abby Dorchnic is fighting for her life. Abby was diagnosed in February 2013, with Stage 4 Squamous Cell Carcinoma in her lungs. Our hearts were broken when, as a wife, mother, and grandmother of 6, she received her diagnosis of lung cancer, despite never having smoked in her life.
One trip to the doctor changed everything for our family. Suddenly, life was rushing away, and all we wanted to do was stop the hourglass.
But Abby has been running out of time since that day in February. Having exhausted all treatment options in her hometown of Jacksonville, Florida, she was lucky enough to gain acceptance into a clinical treatment trial at MD Anderson in Houston, Texas. Our family has already made multiple trips, with each family member taking time off of work to accompany our beloved Abby to her treatment.
What makes her so special? Her life's work was dedicated to healing children as a pediatric nurse for more than 20 years. Since receiving her diagnosis, she has never complained, never lost hope, and never asked for help.
For her treatment, she travels at least two times a month for three days at a time to Houston. These trips can prove costly, and truthfully, our family struggles with the weight of the expense. We don't always know where the money is going to come from, but so far the generosity of people just like you has helped us to help Abby.
